一.過去進行時的基本含義:
表示過去某一時刻正在進行的動作以及過去某一段時間內(nèi)持續(xù)進行的動作,常與表示過去的具體時間,如:atthattime,atthistimeyesterday,at9.00lastnight,atthatmoment等連用。
過去進行時:(Pastcontinuoustense)be(was/were)+verb-ing
二.過去進行時的句式
(1)基本結(jié)構:was/were+v-ing
(2)否定式:was/werenot+v-ing(wasnot=wasn’t/werenot=weren’t)
(3)疑問句:將was/were調(diào)到主語前三.過去進行時的基本用法:
1.表示在過去某個時間點正在發(fā)生的動作.常與attenlastnight,atthistimeyesterday,atthattime/moment,whenIcamein等連用.
2.表示在過去某段時間之內(nèi)持續(xù)不斷發(fā)生的動作.常與lastnight,thismorning,from…to(from7to10thismorning)連用.
3.有時為了句子表達的需要,我們可以用復合句來表達過去進行時.如昨晚當我到家的時候,媽媽和爸爸正在看電視.

剛才當老師走進教室的時候,學生們正在讀書.
Studentswerereadingwhentheteachercameinjustnow.
在這些句子中,when引導的句子表過去的某一個具體的時間,when從句用一般過去時,而它的主句用過去進行時.
但是若強調(diào)某個動作正在進行中時,又發(fā)生了別的動作,用when從句.when從句必用過去進行時,主句用一般過去時.(表示在when從句正進行期間又發(fā)生了主句的動作)此時,when=while,表時間段.如當學生們正在讀書時,老師走進了教室.昨晚當爸爸和媽媽正在看電視時,我到家了.When/whilewewerehavingsupper,thelightwentout.When/Whilehewasridingabike,hefelloffandhurthisleg.若主,從句兩個延續(xù)動作同時進行,用while,則主句與從句都用進行時,
此時,while譯為“而”“一邊,一邊”,如:
HewasreadingthenewspaperwhileIwasstudying.
四.過去進行時與一般過去時的區(qū)別
1.)過去進行時著重描述當時正在進行的動作,它的特點是:未完成,強調(diào)過程;
一般過去時表示一個業(yè)已完成的動作,表示動作發(fā)生過,而且已經(jīng)結(jié)束了,強調(diào)結(jié)果。2.)過去進行時側(cè)重表示動作的延續(xù);
一般過去時表示過去某時發(fā)生過某事,側(cè)重說明事實。

Hewrotesomethinglastnight.(說明他寫了……的事實)
注:下列幾類動詞通常不用于進行時。
①表示狀態(tài)的動詞be;
②感官動詞:feel,hear,look,smell,taste等;
③表示思維或心理狀態(tài)的動詞:believe,forget,consider(認為),know,remember,hope,wish,want等;
④表示所屬關系的動詞:belong,have,own,hold(容納)等。本單元鞏固練習:
