賓語從句
根據(jù)引導(dǎo)詞的不同,賓語從句分為三類:that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句,whether/if引導(dǎo)的賓語從句和疑問詞引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。在賓語從句的使用中有以下三點(diǎn)需要注意:
1.賓語從句中引導(dǎo)詞的選擇
賓語從句的引導(dǎo)詞包括that,whether,if和疑問詞。其中that,whether和if在句中不做任何成分,如下面例句(1)和例句(2)中的that,whether,和if。而疑問詞在句中充當(dāng)成分,如例句(3)中引導(dǎo)詞作從句中的狀語。
e.g.(1)Ihear(that)hehaspassedtheexam.我聽說他通過了考試。
(2)Iwonderwhether/ifhehaspassedtheexam.我想知道他通過考試了沒有。
(3)Iaskedwhenhepassedtheexam.我問他何時(shí)通過了考試。
賓語從句中的引導(dǎo)詞that只起連接作用,在從句中不作句子成分,也沒有詞匯意義,在口語中常被省略,如例(1)中的that。
在疑問詞引導(dǎo)的從句中,應(yīng)根據(jù)從句的意思決定用什么引導(dǎo)詞。
(4)Sheaskedmewhenhecamebackhomeeveryevening.
她問我他每晚什么時(shí)候回家。
(5)Canyoutellmehowhegotbackhome?
你能告訴我他怎么回家的嗎?
(6)Idon’tknowwhyhecamebackhome.
我不知道他為什么回家了。
以上三個(gè)句子的從句都在表述同一事件—“他回家”,但根據(jù)句子的語義選擇了不同的引導(dǎo)詞。
2.賓語從句中的時(shí)態(tài)
一般情況下,如果主句謂語動(dòng)詞時(shí)態(tài)為現(xiàn)在時(shí)或?qū)頃r(shí),賓語從句謂語動(dòng)詞可根據(jù)句意的需要使用任何時(shí)態(tài);如果主句謂語動(dòng)詞為過去時(shí)態(tài),賓語從句謂語動(dòng)詞使用相應(yīng)的過去時(shí)態(tài)。
試比較下面幾個(gè)句子:
Idon’tknowwherewewillgofortheholiday.我不知道我們要去哪度假。
Heaskedwherewewouldgofortheholiday.他問我們要去哪度假。
Ialwaysthinkthey’reforpeoplewhoseEnglishisalreadyquitegood.我一直以為這些俱樂部是為那些英語已經(jīng)說得很好的人開辦的。
IalwaysthoughttheywereforpeoplewhoseEnglishisalreadyquitegood.我原來一直以為這些俱樂部是為那些英語已經(jīng)說得很好的人開辦的。
注意,如果賓語從句中敘述的是真理、實(shí)際情況或經(jīng)常發(fā)生的事情時(shí),即使主句的謂語動(dòng)詞為過去時(shí)態(tài),從句的謂語動(dòng)詞仍要保留一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)。例如:
Inthepast,peopledidn’tknowthattheearthmovesaroundthesun.過去人們不知道地球圍繞太陽轉(zhuǎn)。
Ididn’tknowyoulikeclassicalmusic.我過去不知道你喜歡古典音樂。
3.賓語從句的語序
不管賓語從句表示肯定還是疑問,都用陳述語序。例如:
CanyoutellmewhereIcangetmycarrepaired?
你能告訴我到哪里修車嗎?
Idon’tknowwhenIcangettheresultofthetest.
我不知道什么時(shí)候能得知測驗(yàn)結(jié)果。
定語從句
1.定語從句引導(dǎo)詞的選擇。
從所指來看,which只能用于先行詞為物的情況,who和whom只能用于先行詞為人的情況,其中whom用于引導(dǎo)詞在定語從句中作賓語的情況,在口語中可用who代替;而that既可指人,又可指物。例如:
Everyonethat/whogoestoShenzhensaysitIamoderncity.
每個(gè)去深圳的人都說它是一座現(xiàn)代化城市。

2.定語從句引導(dǎo)詞的省略

名詞有可數(shù)與不可數(shù)之分,有數(shù)和所有格的變化,在句中可以作主語、賓語、賓語補(bǔ)足語、表語、同位語等。
1.可數(shù)名詞與不可數(shù)名詞
很多情況下,我們可以依靠常識(shí)(即用數(shù)數(shù)的辦法)來判斷英語名詞是否可數(shù)。比如,book,table都是可數(shù)名詞而water是不可數(shù)名詞。一般來說,在英語中物質(zhì)名詞和抽象名詞都是不可數(shù)名詞,如flour,rice,beauty,pleasure,money等。
學(xué)習(xí)名詞必須區(qū)分其是否可數(shù)。只有可數(shù)名詞前才可以使用數(shù)詞和不定冠詞。值得注意的是,有時(shí)同一個(gè)單詞所指不同,其數(shù)的概念也就不同。例如,paper作“紙”解時(shí)為不可數(shù)名詞,表示“報(bào)紙”和“試卷”時(shí)是可數(shù)名詞;fish指“魚肉”時(shí)是不可數(shù)名詞,表示“魚”時(shí)是可數(shù)名詞,只不過通常是單復(fù)數(shù)同形;coffee做“咖啡”解時(shí)是不可數(shù)名詞,表示“一杯咖啡”時(shí)是可數(shù)名詞。
2.名詞的數(shù)
對(duì)于可數(shù)名詞數(shù)的變化,一要掌握規(guī)則變化,即名詞后面加-s或者-es的情況;二要掌握不規(guī)則變化,包括man-men,woman-women,foot-feet,tooth-teeth,mouse-mice,child-children等;三要掌握單復(fù)數(shù)同形的單詞,如sheep等。除此之外,還應(yīng)注意以下幾點(diǎn):
1)在一般情況下,復(fù)合名詞的單復(fù)數(shù)形式體現(xiàn)在最后一個(gè)名詞上,如apencilbox-pencilboxes,agirlstudent-girlstudents。但是如果是由man或woman構(gòu)成的復(fù)合名詞,如amandoctor,awomanteacher,其復(fù)數(shù)形式則為mendoctors,womenteachers。
2)有些名詞往往以復(fù)數(shù)形式出現(xiàn),如trousers,glasses(眼鏡),在表示數(shù)量時(shí)需要借助量詞,如apairoftrousers,threepairsoftrousers。
3)有些名詞表示復(fù)數(shù)概念,往往作為一個(gè)整體看待,如police,people。這些單詞沒有復(fù)數(shù)形式。但是其后面的謂語動(dòng)詞卻多為復(fù)數(shù)形式。例如:Thepolicehavecaughtthethief.Manypeoplehaveseenthefilm.如果要表達(dá)單個(gè)數(shù)量只能換用其他單詞。例如:“一名警察”是apoliceman/policeman,“一個(gè)人”可以是aperson,aman,awoman等。不過要注意,people作“民族,種族”解時(shí),是可數(shù)名詞,復(fù)數(shù)形式是peoples。
3.名詞的所有格
名詞的所有格一般采用名詞后加’s的形式,如achild’sdream,someone’sbag;以-s結(jié)尾的復(fù)數(shù)名詞的所有格直接加’即可,如theboys’schoolbags。所有格表示的是所屬關(guān)系,采用’s結(jié)構(gòu)的多為有生命的名詞。如果是無生命的名詞,多采用“of+名詞”的方式表達(dá)。例如:

thegateofourschool我們學(xué)校的大門
注意,afriendofmyfather’s與myfather’sfriend的含義不同,前者含有“我父親有不止一個(gè)朋友”的意思,而后者沒有這一含義。
