時(shí)態(tài)包括兩方面的因素,一為“時(shí)”即時(shí)間,一為“態(tài)”即方式。從時(shí)間上看,英語(yǔ)時(shí)態(tài)有現(xiàn)在、過(guò)去、將來(lái)、過(guò)去將來(lái)之分;從方式上看,每一時(shí)間內(nèi)的動(dòng)作表現(xiàn)方式又有一般、進(jìn)行、完成、完成進(jìn)行之別。動(dòng)詞表示的動(dòng)作可以發(fā)生于四種不同的時(shí)間,表現(xiàn)出四種不同的方式,每一種“時(shí)間---方式”構(gòu)成一種時(shí)態(tài),因此英語(yǔ)中共有16種時(shí)態(tài)。
