(4)advance也可作名詞用,意思和動詞差不多。如:①Theenemycouldntmakeanyadvance,norcouldtheygoback.敵人進不得,也退不得。②Greatadvanceshavebeenmadeinmedicalscience.醫(yī)療科學取得巨大的進展。
inadvance意思是“預先”“在前面”,而inadvanceof意思是“在…前”“超過…”。如:①Thesubjectofthediscussionisannouncedaweekinadvance.討論的題目提前一周公布。②Ihadaskedeveryonetoraisequestionsinadvanceofthemeeting.我要求大家在會議前提出問題。③Hearrivedhalfanhourinadvance.他提前半小時到達。
inadvanceof也可引申為“比…先進”。如:Ourequipmentsarefarinadvanceoftheirs.我們的設備遠比他們的先進。

▲shall作為情態(tài)動詞的用法
作為情態(tài)動詞shall可用于任何人稱,在陳述句中表示允諾、威脅、命令、決心、規(guī)定、要求等。如:
(1)表示允諾。如:①Tellherthatsheshallgetthebooktomorrow.告訴她明天就可以拿到那本書了。②Ipromiseyoushallseethemagainbeforelong.我保證你不久就會見到他們。③Dontworry,youshallgettheanswerthisveryafternoon.別著急,今天下午你就可以得到答復了。④Youshallhavehigherpayifyouworkwell.如果你工作得好,你就可以得到較高的工資。⑤Youshallheareverythingdirectlyyoucome.你一來,就什么都會聽到。

(2)dear此處作“珍貴的”解釋。如:①HelosteverythingthatWasdeartohim.他喪失了他所珍視的一切。②Fameandpowerareverydeartohim.名譽和權力對他來說是非常珍貴的。③Tohimverydearisthepowerbywhichhecancontrolpeopleandgetmoney.對他來說,權力是非常珍貴的,通過它可以支配人并得到錢財。
(3)dear可以作“(價格)昂貴的”“索價高的”解釋。如:①Itistoodear.這價錢太貴了。②Ityouwanttomakemoney,youmustbuycheapandselldear.如果你想賺錢,你必須便宜的買進昂貴的賣出。
dear與expensive的異同點。dear與expensive都有“價格昂貴”之意,都不能與price連用。例如我們不能說"Thepriceofthemotorcycleistoodear/expensive,而只能說Themotorcycleistoodear/expensive或Thepriceofthemotorcycleistoohigh.因為修飾price的只能是high或low。以上講的是dear與expensive這兩個詞相同的地方。但這兩個詞也有不同的一面。dear所表示的價格貴,是超乎常情的貴,講得通俗一點,是指某個商品價格很貴,但實際不值那么多錢,而expensive所表示的貴,有“物美價高非購買者財力所及”之意,舉例來說,如果一輛價值十萬元的車賣十萬元,就不能說dear,而只能說expensive;但如果一斤桔子通常賣一元,如賣一元五角,就應該說dear。
▲dear還可用作感嘆詞,相當于漢語的“天啊”“哎呀”,表示傷心、焦急、驚奇、遺憾、同情等。如:①Oh,dear!WhatshallIdo?噢!天啊!我該怎么辦呢?②"Dearme",saidtheoldministertohimself,"AmIfoolishorunfitformyoffice?"“天哪”,老大臣心里想,難道我也愚蠢或不稱職了?③"Oh,dear!Howcallyoudrawonthewall?"“噢,天啊!你怎么能在墻上亂畫?”
