TheThreeGorgesDam滾滾長江,泱泱中華。毛澤東暢游長江時,揮毫留下了浪漫之作《水調歌頭?游詠》,為我們描繪了“高峽出平湖,神女應無羌,當驚世界殊”的壯美圖畫。而今,葛洲壩上游興建的三峽工程將成為世界上最大的水力發(fā)電站,萬噸巨輪可駛抵重慶,三峽景色將更加絢麗多姿。
TheYangtzeRiverishometooneofthemostbeautifulnaturalscenesofChina—theThreeGorges.Butforgenerations,ChinesepeoplehavelongdreamedoftamingtheYangtzeRiverforpowergenerationandfloodcontrol.Theriver’sendlessfloodshavebroughtdestructionanddeathforcenturies—1milliondeathsinthe20thcenturyalone.
Nowadays,alongtheYangtzeRiver,thethirdlongestriverintheworld,agreatconstructionproject,theThreeGorgesDamisinprogress.Oncecompleted,itwillbethelargestandmostpowerfulhydro-electricprojectintheworld.Towering610feethighandstretching1.3mileswide,thedamwillcreateareservoirthatextendsnearly400milesupstreamthuschangingtheoriginallandscapeofthisregion.
TheprojecthasbeenunderdiscussioninChinasincetheideaofthedamwasfirstproposedin1919.TheThreeGorgesDamisbothamarvelofengineeringandthegreatestchallengeitsdesignershaveeverfaced.TheThreeGorgesDamhasbeenengineeredtostoreover5trilliongallons(加侖)ofwaterandtowithstandanearthquakeof7.0ontheRichterscale(里氏震級).Thereservoirwillallow10,000-tonshipstoenterthenation’sinterior,whichcurrentlylimitsaccesstoboatsunder1,500tons.Inaddition,thegovernmentsaysthedamwillcontrolterrifyingfloodsandprovideelectricalpowertoChina’sgrowingcities.
LikeChina’sGreatWall,itwillbeoneofthefewmanmadestructuresthatcanbeseenfromspace.TheChinesegovernmentandthedam’sengineersthinkoftheprojectasasymbolofnationalpride.Inearly1999ChinesePremierZhuRongjiinspectedthedamsite.Hetoldtheengineers,"Theresponsibilityonyourshouldersisheavierthanamountain.Anycare-lessnessornegligencewillbringdisasterstoourfuturegenerations."Sureenough,engineersdoshoulderheavyresponsibility.Wehopeinthenearfuturewe’llseeanewwondertheycreateforChina.

4.非限制性定語從句還能將整個主句作為先行詞,對其進行修飾,這時從句中的謂語動詞要用第三人稱單數。如:
Mysonfailedagainintheexam,whichmademeveryangry.
注意:
1.關系代詞that和關系副詞why不能引導非限制性定語從句。
2.as或which引導的非限制性定語從句,可以修飾整個主句或主句的一部分。as引導的定語從句還可以放在主句之前,而which引導的非限制性定語從句要放在句末。如:
Ashasbeenannounced,weshallhaveourfinalexamsnextmonth.
Weshallhaveourfinalexamsnextmonth,as/whichhasbeenannounced.
3.as引導定語從句時,意為"正如……那樣",如:
